CCV and RUBEAN turn smartphone to payment terminal for merchants
  • An app on the smartphone enables the acceptance of mobile payments
  • Supported by the card networks with strong demand on the part of merchants
Au in der Hallertau / Munich, 26st February 2018. The Munich fintech company RUBEAN AG (ISIN: DE0005120802) and CCV Deutschland GmbH, affiliate of the CCV Group BV, Arnheim (NL), have agreed on a cooperation aimed at turning the merchants' smartphones into payment terminals. The agreement provides the joint development and marketing of mobile Point-of-Sale (mPOS) payment solutions which are solely based on smartphones. For processing contactless (NFC) payments the merchant will not require any additional, peripheral hardware, just the app on their smartphone.

This new smartphone-only mPOS solution is especially appealing for smaller and mobile merchants who regard conventional payment terminals as too unwieldy and expensive. Mastercard and Visa, the card networks who specify security requirements on their payment card systems, have supported the concept of a "smartphone-only" payment terminal since 2017.

Reinhard R. Blum, managing director of CCV Deutschland GmbH: "In the field of smartphone-only mPOS payment terminals, we have decided to enter into a strategic partnership with RUBEAN, since RUBEAN has undertaken valuable preparatory work and supply deeper mobile security expertise."

Hermann Geupel, chief executive officer of RUBEAN AG: "To ensure a faster market launch of our mPOS solution we looked to partner with a pro-active, cutting-edge manufacturer of POS terminals and found these qualities in CCV. CCV's acCEPT solution outsources part of its POS terminal functionality on the server, thereby enabling lean apps to be created for end-user devices, smartphones in our case."

Within the next few months CCV and RUBEAN aim to pilot the joint solution with various card networks in Germany and UK.
