Schneider Electric joins Jetter’s partner group, pushes
JetWeb-Infrastructure-Standard
Ludwigsburg, 23. August 2000 – Jetter, a manufacturer of
programmable logic controllers, (Frankfurt, Neuer Markt:
JTT) announces that Schneider Electric, the third biggest
producer of industrial controllers world-wide, has joined
Jetter’s partner group IDA. With Schneider on board, Jetter
expects the international break-through of the new JetWeb
Standard.
With the cutting-edge JetWeb technology, and as IDA
founding member, Jetter positions itself as gateway for the
entry of open IT standards into industrial automation. With
Schneider joining the IDA partner group, Jetter envisages a
significant reinforcement of its JetWeb standard on a
global scale. Schneider Electric generates a turnover of
ca. 9 bln USD with its brands Merlin Gerin, Modicon,
Square-D and Telemechanique and has thus a significant
impact on the dynamics of the impending paradigm shift in
automation technology.
The IDA partner group was founded in March 2000, by Jetter
in liaison with Kuka, Phoenix Contact and Sick. In four
work-groups, it is developing further the communication
standard used in the JetWeb. The group now comprises eight
companies, which have formed a common development pool.
More than 20 further companies have committed themselves to
adopt the new standard. It is IDA’s goal to globally
establish this free and open IT-based standard for
automation technology. Jetter views IDA as market platform
for its JetWeb products, which will be considerably
broadened and globalised by Schneider’s entry.
“Schneider’s market position, as well as the additional
engineering resources at IDA’s disposal, will have a big
impact on the paradigm shift in automation technology,
triggered by the JetWeb, towards Ethernet-based systems.
Thus also the importance of JetWeb technology is
considerably enhanced.”, says Martin Jetter, CEO of Jetter
AG.
In autumn 2000, Jetter, ahead of the other group members,
will start delivering its JetWeb devices. These will be the
first products world-wide that are based exclusively on
open IT standards. This revolutionises the possibilities of
integrating the production process into the IT world.
