Schaltbau Group achieves sales target for 2009

Munich, 21 January 2010 - The Schaltbau Group successfully achieved its
sales target for 2009, despite the dampening influence of the worldwide
recession. Although, according to preliminary figures, the EUR 65.0 million
sales revenues reported in the fourth quarter 2009 were down on the EUR
69.1 million reported one year earlier, the figure is an encouraging
improvement on the third quarter 2009. Preliminary sales figures for the
year totalled EUR 270.5 million, 3.5 per cent or EUR 9.7 million lower than
the EUR 280.2 million recorded at the end of 2008. The reduced demand for
industrial products was reflected in lower revenues for the Components
segment with delayed effect. Sales in the business field Brake Systems of
the Stationary Transportation Technology segment also decreased due to the
lower volume of world trade, the expansion of port capacities being
particularly hard hit by the economic crisis. By contrast, however, in the
same segment, the business field Rail Infrastructure maintained sales
revenues at practically the same level as the previous year. The Mobile
Transportation Technology segment achieved a modest rise in sales due to a
very positive performance in the business field Door Systems for Railway
Vehicles.

Incoming orders increased for the first time during the year under report
in the last quarter with order intake of EUR 58.2 million compared with the
previous year's fourth-quarter figure of EUR 57.1 million. The growth is
primarily due to steadily rising demand in the business field Rail
Infrastructure. Order intake for the Group totalled EUR 251.6 million in
2009 (previous year: EUR 281.2 million). None of the three segments
achieved the order-intake figures seen one year earlier. The Group's order
book stood at EUR 163.4 million at 31 December 2009, below the previous
year's figure of EUR 181.6 million.

With annual sales of EUR 270 million and a workforce of around 1,600
employees, the Schaltbau Group is a leading supplier of components and
systems in the field of transportation technology. It manufactures complete
level crossing systems, door systems for buses and trains, industrial
braking systems for container cranes and also power supply units as well as
high- and low-voltage components for railway vehicles. Its innovative and
future-oriented products make Schaltbau a key business partner in the
fields of transportation technology and industry.
