in the first Quarter of 2012

Offenburg, May 11, 2012 - MEDICLIN Aktiengesellschaft (MediClin) achieved Group sales of EUR 125.4 million in the first three months of the new financial year. Sales were EUR 5.4 million or 4.5 % higher than in the first quarter of 2011. The largest part of the increase was recorded in the post-acute segment. Here sales increased by EUR 4.4 million up to EUR 70.7 million. Sales of the acute segment sales rose by EUR 0.2 million up to EUR 50.6 million. The business area nursing care improved sales by EUR 0.3 million up to EUR 3.2 million.

The Group operating result for the first quarter 2011 stood at EUR -0.5 million and included an aperiodic provision for budged risks in the amount of EUR 1.1 million. Adjusted for this special effect, the Group operating result for the first quarter 2012, which amounted EUR -1,2 million, is EUR 0.5 million higher than the figure achieved in the previous year.

In the post-acute segment the result improved compared to the first quarter 2011 from EUR -3.3 million to EUR -1.7 million; in the acute segment it degreased by EUR 2.2 million to EUR 2.4 million due to increased costs.

The financial result enhanced by EUR 0,3 million, therefore the result attributable to the shareholders of EUR -2,0 million was at the same level as in the first quarter 2011 lag.

Further company development and outlook

In 2012 MediClin will invest in a further expansion of capacities and in an extension of medical services offered based on corresponding demand.

On Group level between MediClin and Askelpios the analysis of possible common potentials available has started as well as discussions about location-specific cooperation between the facilities of both holding companies.

Overall, the Management Board expects an increase in sales in the current financial year and a solid development of results, insofar as the framework conditions in the industry and the referral behaviour of the coverage providers do not seriously change in 2012.
