Norddeutsche Affinerie reduces its electricity costs by concluding
long-term supply agreement and abandons construction plans for its own
power plant / cost-based electricity price instead of EEX exchange price

Hamburg, 04 May 2007. Norddeutsche Affinerie AG (NA) is participating in
the new bituminous coal-fired power plant of Vattenfall Europe AG in
Hamburg by the procurement of a virtual 115 MW slice. In doing so, NA is
securing the well-priced procurement of electricity solely on the basis of
production costs for the entire NA Group for a period of thirty years. As a
result of this step NA is abandoning plans to build a substitute fuel power
plant to generate its own electricity supply.

The electricity supply will begin on 1 January 2010, thus independent of
the commissioning of the bituminous coal-fired power plant scheduled for
2012.  The long-term agreement reduces NA Group’s electricity costs by 30 %
compared with today’s level and is therefore almost equal to the SF power
plant from an economic viewpoint. In addition, NA will be relieved of
investment and operating risks connected with the SF power plant.

This step will enhance NA even further, in particular when compared with
its European competitors in the copper industry.
