Leclanché SA: Leclanché announces 8.5 million euros order for the Graciosa project
Leclanché SA / Key word(s): Incoming Orders Leclanché announces 8.5 million euros order With this order, representing 3.2MWh, Leclanché underpins a solid base of production capacity of lithium-ion titanate cells (“LTO”) for the second half of 2015 and successful delivery of this Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) within this year will contribute significantly towards achieving adjusted EBITDA breakeven at the end of the year. Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, 5 May 2015 – Swiss battery manufacturer Leclanché confirms that it has now received its first order from project partner, Younicos AG, for the Graciosa island micro-grid solution, incorporating renewable energy power plants, as previously recorded in the joint press release of partnership with Younicos on 10 April 2015. The project is developed by Younicos on the Azorean island of Graciosa. The turnkey order for the supply and commissioning of the Battery Power Plant (“BPP”) within the project, totals c.8.5 million euros – of which c.4 million euros relates to the BESS and has been confirmed for shipment this year. This order helps Leclanché cover a significant share of its cell production capacity for the second semester of 2015, representing full scale production for one shift. Leclanché shall deliver the entire BPP on a turnkey basis, including: – A complete BESS using its industry-leading LTO batteries combined with the integrated inverters; – The entire Engineering, Procurement and Construction (“EPC”) for the BPP, including all the electrical, mechanical and civil works. Jim Atack, Chairman of Leclanché, commented: «The confirmation of this order gives further validation of Leclanché’s stationary storage technology and the strategy the company has deployed to bring it to market. The order marks a significant break-through for Leclanché and this project gives yet more credibility to Leclanché’s storage technology in fast developing markets and to deploy advanced grid-scale storage systems for increased integration and management of renewable energies. It reflects a true, large scale, commercialization of the capabilities developed over several years for the Romande Energie and EPFL project announced last year». The renewable energy power plant, uniquely featuring solar, wind and battery storage, will boost the island’s annual share of renewable energies from 15 percent to up to 65 percent. This will substantially reduce its dependence on fuel imports through the integration and management of green energy. This world’s first megawatt-scale renewable energy plus storage system will set new standards for islands and remote communities worldwide.
